Michael Galligan shared the joy of coin collecting starting with his Grandfather, who gave him his first coin at a very young age. Going forward he shared that passion with his daughter Casey and his Son-In-Law Esteban Gonzales. Michael was truly a man of many talents, skills, passions and sense of service to others. He served in the Navy and completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Graphic Arts with Honors. Michael viewed life through the lens of how could he serve others and did so as a Para Pro for the Holly School District. His impact on the lives of all those he taught cannot be put into words. Michael always seemed to meet someone as a stranger and leave them as a friend. His desire to always learn was both academic and hands on where he eventually put together his own wood shop, his life-long dream making works of art through personal expression and all the skills required of a craftsman of woodworking was something he pursued with great joy and wonder. Along the way, sadly he was dealt multiple health issues that he approached with grace, patience and determination. He beat one devastating event to then be handed a second diagnosis that alone would have caused anyone else to simply give up, something that was totally foreign to him, surrender. He passed these coins on to his daughter Casey, who now hopes they will bring someone else the same joy they brought to her father and honor his memory by paying it forward. Some of his fabulous Indian Cents will be featured in Auction #70!

Steve Davis of Numismatic Auctions L.L.C. began collecting coins at the age of 8 during the United States Bicentennial in 1976. Starting with an interest in his father's cigar box stash of coins and currency that his dad put aside as a paperboy in the 1940's, Steve was forever hooked. During the silver boom in the 1980's Steve began buying and selling coins, along with working at a local coin shop as an alternative to mowing lawns and painting houses. He later sold his coin collection as a senior in high school to fund the purchase of the first of what would be several investment properties.
In 1981 Steve helped record prices realized for a Joseph Lepczyk Coin Auction and later went on to catalog for the firm and assist in management in later incarnations led by Ken Downie of Australia and Craig A. Whitford. After nearly a quarter century at the company, Steve manned the helm as the new owner following the retirement of Craig Whitford and has been conducting sales on his own ever since 2008.
Steve and his wife, Lisa, work together in the company and bring a a vastly diverse group of material to the market, from Ancient to Modern, World and esoteric Mint History pieces, Paper Money, Exonumia and much more. Starting with Sale #67, they transitioned to a fully online auction platform featuring ultra-high definition, zoomable coin imagery and online bidding. With a high sell through rate and setting record prices often not attained by other firms, the transition has been a huge success.
Steve and Lisa look forward to many more years of helping both collectors and dealers alike buy and sell numismatic items while they build new friendships along the way.
